Renowned cities – which, as years go by, became metropoles of solitude and introversion. The contemporary man, imbalanced, has lost the will to communicate and is turning into a passive machine, thus declaring his seclusion. Neighbourhoods, once vibrant and lively, now seem derelict and forgotten, as they are filled with people who have come to terms with feelings of alienation and insecurity, trying at the same time to hide their mutation into solitary and distant beings. No matter how heavy the burden of living in a metropolis of fear and rejection is for the contemporary man, he will keep hoping for a better tomorrow – even if the effort he puts into turning this hope into a reality is minimal. Renowned Cities was exhibited from 6-19 of December 2006 at the gallery of Hellenic Photographic Society in Athens.
