Αbout safety and space (Ongoing project)

‘About Safety and Space’ is a photographic project that explores the notion of space and security in the intermediate spaces that mediate between public and private realms and life. Observing common spaces at street level, such as balconies, terraces, and windows, and how these spaces are managed and utilized provides insight not only into the area but also the era. Multicultural neighborhoods with a population concentration. Places with variable identity and aesthetics. Defensive structures ranging from all kinds of barriers, from plastic and wooden surfaces on balconies and windows, bear witness to the fear and insecurity of residents, while elsewhere, fortification aims to protect from the indiscriminate gazes of passersby and neighbors. Small spaces of isolation from the ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ that house various objects and forms of life. Climbing ivies and outdoor-resistant plants in pots. Plants that usually die from harsh conditions. National flags and cages with singing birds. Laundry lines and satellite dishes.
